So Long, Farewell, #402

I’m entering into this week with a bit of sadness in my heart.  Today and tomorrow are days full of goodbyes.  As these are my last two days of summer camp, I will be doing closing music & drama programs to say goodbye to campers and staff and conclude the summer.  It’s been an amazing two months, and I’m especially sad to say goodbye to staff that I’ve come to know over this time.  I look at them as extraordinary individuals who have so much of their lives ahead of them, and I expect to hear great things about their lives as they forge forward.

I am also sad to say goodbye to all of the summer songs that have become our camp “hits.”  The school year brings with it all new curriculum, and I know that many of these songs will be tabled until next year or put away for the next moment when the time is right.  Each time these songs by chance come on the radio throughout the year though, I know they will bring me back to camp just for a moment, and there will be a glimpse of sweetness from each one of them.  There is something very comforting about this.

So long to the summer of 2012.  It’s been awesome, and I will forever hold you in my heart.  Fittingly, my song of the day is “So Long, Farewell,” from “The Sound fo Music,” because even though it is about saying goodbye, it is impossible to sing this song without smiling.  All “Sound of Music” songs have this ability, and it is nice to have a bit of joy as we all bid our farewells.  Here’s the Youtube link for a song and a smile today:   xxxooo

About tucsonsongstress

I am a music teacher for children ages 6-weeks-old - 8th grade. I am also a camp songleader and a Jewish music specialist with and without my husband who is known as Shabbat Scott. We love singing with people of all ages all over Tucson. My "song of the day" idea originally started by playing music challenges on Facebook. I loved choosing songs, and my friends seemed to love reading and listening to my choices. I have decided to continue a daily blog (or as daily as I can manage) and tell you all some stories through some songs that have touched me either in wonderful ways or by annoying the heck out of me. Hope you all enjoy this blog! Happy singing!
