I have been in the same room with some pretty big name people at the BlogHer conference over the last several days. Each of these women have been eloquent and so incredibly impressive.
As I’ve already written, I heard Martha Stewart speak. (Check out my “Martha” blog post from yesterday entitled “Isn’t She Lovely”: https://tucsonsongstress.com/2012/08/04/isnt-she-lovely-407/
Here she is:
And then, there was the lunch hour when the 4000 of us spent some time with the delightful Katie Couric.
Soledad O’Brien, Christy Turlington Burns and Malaak Compton-Rock are role-model women who have each set up foundations to make the world better. The Soledad O’Brien and Brad Raymond Foundation supports young women and their pursuits for education (http://obrienraymondfoundation.com/). Christy Turlington Burns supports maternal health with her foundation “Every Mother Counts.” (http://everymothercounts.org/) Finally Malaak Compton-Rock (Chris Rock’s wife) has the “Angel Rock Project” which is an online “E-Village” that promotes and raises awareness and money for global issues. Just look at these women…so smart, so beautiful and making change in the world. You just can’t beat that package!
There is one little lady, however, that I spent some time with after the conference, and I must say, I am most enamored with her. She is someone often discussed in my household, and would you believe she lives right around the corner from where I am staying in New York City? I spent some time with her yesterday at her home. Here’s a picture:
Yes, blog readers! It’s me and Eloise at the Plaza Hotel!!!!!! I have loved her my whole life, and now my daughter and I read her books together. I thought she would be the perfect gift to bring home to my baby girl from NYC, and so I stopped by FAO Schwartz (www.fao.com) to buy this secret gift and then headed to the infamous Plaza Hotel to take pictures with her. Now my daughter can see the Plaza for real, but shhhh….I’m letting you all in on her surprise before she even knows about it. Mum’s the word, capisce???
Here are a couple more photos.
Eloise in the grand hotel foyer…so pretty!
Eloise in the famous Palm Court. This is where she goes for tea time every afternoon!
Finally here’s the sign for the “Eloise” shop in the bottom of the Plaza Hotel. She oversees all of it’s production, of course, because she is such a brilliant business gal. The picture of the shop comes from the Plaza Hotel website. So make sure to go to their site to read all about them (www.theplaza.com)
Oh yes, I have spent my last couple of days with some amazing women. To honor all of these ladies, my song of the day is Whitney Houston’s version of “I’m Every Woman.” Check out the Youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7_sqdkaAfo
All of the ladies I wrote about today have qualities that are within all of us. So, ladies, I encourage you to zero in on those great qualities and let ’em shine. I’m so happy to bring home a piece of each of these women back to Tucson with me, and together, I know we can make a great impact.
