Footloose, #418

Standard

When we moved into our house a little over 7 years ago, we would talk about how someday we would be able to walk both our kids over to the elementary school across the street and kiss them goodbye as we sent them on their way.  It was a distant dream, and it seemed too far away to imagine that one day it would really happen.

Finally it has.  With my son now in kindergarten, we are beginning our day as a family walking together, and just as we conjured up in our heads for all of these years, we give our kids hugs and kisses and waves as we wish them a good day.  It is such a lovely way to start to our mornings….as a family.

I imagine that this morning walk to school will be part of their childhood memories.  When I was a kid, we lived too far from our school, and most of the year there was snow on the ground.  Walking would have been miserable and difficult.  I am recognizing how special this new morning ritual is, and oh my goodness…I appreciate it so much.  Even if it means I have to wake up at 5:30 am to accomplish all of my morning chores and getting ready by the time we head out the door at 7:45.  Walking to school with my kids has become one of my new favorite daily activities.

So, my song of the day today is one that honors this simple pleasure.  It is “Footloose,” written and performed by Kenny Loggins from the 1980’s film with the same name.  I like the idea that songs suggests we should all “cut loose,” and it is so upbeat and cheerful that I think it is a fun way to describe my sweet family mornings.  Here is the Youtube link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwBbMXYDsXw

Now I must run and shower, get dressed, wake my kids and get them dressed and fed with backpacks and lunch boxes as we start our day together.  All this needs to be done within the next hour.  It’s a mad rush, but not to worry, because our walk is the nice way to get focused before the real work of the day begins.  Off we go!!!  Many good wishes for a lovely day for all of you, too!  Peace!

About tucsonsongstress

I am a music teacher for children ages 6-weeks-old - 8th grade. I am also a camp songleader and a Jewish music specialist with and without my husband who is known as Shabbat Scott. We love singing with people of all ages all over Tucson. My "song of the day" idea originally started by playing music challenges on Facebook. I loved choosing songs, and my friends seemed to love reading and listening to my choices. I have decided to continue a daily blog (or as daily as I can manage) and tell you all some stories through some songs that have touched me either in wonderful ways or by annoying the heck out of me. Hope you all enjoy this blog! Happy singing!

    • Yes! It is really strange having my son in kindergarten, but I can already see how much he is growing even with only 1 week under his belt. It is so bittersweet. So hard to watch them grow…and beautiful at the same time! Thanks for the well wishes.
