Last night, before, during and after the presidential debates, there was a firestorm of activity on Facebook and all over the media. When I say firestorm, I mean it in the true sense of the word. There were swords thrown and arson and bullets flying through the air without a care in the world of who they would hit or how it would affect them. Plain and simply, politics bug me, because all social skills and consideration for people’s feelings go out the window.
I have never expressed my political affiliation in a public forum, and I won’t start now except to say that I am not an extremist for either political party. Believe me, I have friends who are extremists…on both sides of the coin. I am tired of the fingers pointing and the angered rambling words. Instead, isn’t okay to disagree? Isn’t okay to know that both parties have the same goal of making America the best it can be with perhaps different agendas on how to get there? Isn’t it okay to express an opinion without putting on boxing gloves?
Opinions are just that….opinions. Just because we may have strong emotions on how the world should be run, it doesn’t mean that we should be able to cyber bully the other political side. It is wrong, and it amazes me as to what happens during debate season and throughout the year. The kindest most gentle people all of sudden become untamed beasts, and truthfully, I am disappointed. Go ahead….go express your opinion, but please calm down! State your opinion, and keep the emotional craziness out of it, please! You have no idea how you are affecting people, because some of us find it offensive.
This blog is not being written to any one person. It is being written to a general community and hopefully will act as a reminder to know just how hurtful words can be. So please, think before you speak or type, because there is just no need for filling the world with anger! It is a waste of time, and we could accomplish so much more if we could discuss issues like mature adults.
Ok…now that this is all off of my chest, my song of the day is quite fittingly “Politik” by Coldplay. I love the message of this song. Check out some of their lyrics:
Look at earth from outer space
Everyone must find a place
Give me time and give me space
Give me real; don’t give me fake
Give me strength; reserve control
Give me heart and give me soul
Give me time; give us a kiss
Tell me your own politik
That’s right….”reserve control” and then “tell me your own politik.” Coldplay got it right! Click HERE to go to Youtube to see an awesome live performance of Coldplay performing this song in a 2003 concert, and please take their lyrics to heart. Please don’t forget to play nice, because kindness really matters.
