La Raspa, #483

The other day, I experienced a true joy of motherhood.  I watched my son with the other kindergarteners at his school in a song and dance performance of “La Raspa,” aka the “Mexican Hat Dance.”  It was the sweetest performance you could ever imagine with every child in white and blue, the boys wearing red bandanas and the girls with red tissue paper flowers in their hair.  They were a raucous bunch all full of energy and good intention and more natural charm that any grown up would ever be able to muster up within them.

The performance was cultural and musical and was perfect for my little kinetic learner.  I was so impressed that he took it all so seriously, and the best part of the whole thing was how proud he was with himself.  He knew he was doing something special and when the teaching staff said it was okay for the children to give hugs to their parents at the end, he ran to us with a huge smile and arms open wide ready to hear our praise.

So, here are a few of the best moments from this performance of “La Raspa.”  While you’re looking at the pictures, click HERE to open up a Youtube page of the song, and you’ll get the real feeling coming from these very sweet performers.

Waving our Flags…

The great educators who taught this to my kid!

What a great morning, and I feel so blessed that my child is getting such a great education.  Thank you to this incredible group of people who built confidence in my child and gave joy to my heart!  We appreciate all you do so much.

About tucsonsongstress

I am a music teacher for children ages 6-weeks-old - 8th grade. I am also a camp songleader and a Jewish music specialist with and without my husband who is known as Shabbat Scott. We love singing with people of all ages all over Tucson. My "song of the day" idea originally started by playing music challenges on Facebook. I loved choosing songs, and my friends seemed to love reading and listening to my choices. I have decided to continue a daily blog (or as daily as I can manage) and tell you all some stories through some songs that have touched me either in wonderful ways or by annoying the heck out of me. Hope you all enjoy this blog! Happy singing!
