Learning that Lance Armstrong is guilty of his doping allegations is a hard pill to swallow. It is deceptive and unfair, but man….this is Lance Armstrong…a hero who overcame cancer and we all thought defied the odds to win the Tour de France 7 times. Yes, his falling star is heartbreaking, and personally, I hate reading about his demise.
I am writing about him today though, because I think it is still so important to remember that Lance Armstrong is not all evil. There is no judge or official sports council member who can strip him of what I think is his number one title: cancer survivor. Please do not forget that Lance Armstrong survived Stage 3 testicular cancer in 1996 and founded an incredible organization that has proven to promote a healthy way of living in order to beat the disease. Drug enhanced performance or not, Livestrong is still amazing, and its message should not be overlooked. Do NOT take off the yellow bracelet, because what it stands for and its ideals are still true and beautiful and are very real.
I agree with Lance Armstrong’s choice to step down as the chairman of Livestrong. Unfortunately, he made illegal choices that do not follow the organization’s mission, and therefore, his name will only give Livestrong negative attention. Donors, however, wanting monies returned because “The charity was established and publicized and got their funds based on a fraud,” as said by Michael Birdsong, longtime supporter of the organization is completely absurd. Just because the person at the helm has not withstood upstanding principles does not mean the entire organization has been crooked. When Bill Clinton was involved in the Monica Lewinsky scandal, did we hold the entire US government responsible? Of course not, and in my opinion, this is no different.
My song of the day is “Dance, Dance” by the band Fall Out Boy. One thing I love about Livestrong is that they try to make a healthy lifestyle accessible and easy. They actually provide lists of the most energetic and best workout songs to get you pumped up and ready to go. I love that they leave no stones unturned, and I really love their music connection. “Dance, Dance” was the first song on their list of “rock” workout songs. ClickHERE to see the complete list, and click HERE to go to Youtube to hear the song and watch the fun video.
So, enjoy the song, and may it energize you for your day. Don’t forget y’all, “Live Strong,” because plain and simply, it’s a good way to be.
