Swing, Swing, #937

I am naturally a bubbly upbeat person, but blogster friends, don’t you think we all channel our inner emo sometimes?  (For my mother and other non-knowing modern slang words people….  Emo is short for emotional.  Or, according to Urban Dictionary it is:  “Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who don’t smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.”)

Today is one of those days.  I want to get all emo on you.  I feel like decking out in all my black clothes and smudging my eyelids with black liner and mascara and listening to really loud music.

Instead…I’ll be wearing red.  And maybe some blue.  Those are the University of Arizona Wildcat colors, and that is what has been requested at the memorial service I am attending today.  It feels against the grain for me, but I understand.  We are celebrating a life instead of mourning one.  I get that.  I get that big time, but that still doesn’t mean that I don’t want to crawl in a hole with fuzzy comfy blankets and shut myself off from the world.

So, for all of you…I am acknowledging this want and desire of mine, because it is there inside of me wanting to be acknowledged.  I’ll be wearing red but feeling black even if the Wildcats are playing tonight in the big game against Wisconsin.  Go Cats!

The All American Rejects are the quintessential emo band in my opinion.  They are who I think of when I think of this style of music.  I love their sound, and today, they seem to fit my mood.  So, here is their song “Swing, Swing” as my song of the day, because even though I won’t look very emo today, I’ll be feeling it.
