The craziest thing happened the other day. I was driving home and was not on my normal path. I was coming from a doctor’s appointment, and though typically I have my kids with me on my way home, on this particular day, I was alone. As I was driving, I spotted a man walking on the street with a gas tank in his hands. I realized that I knew him. He was the father of some kids that I know from my work. There was no way I couldn’t help him, so I swung my car around and pulled over tapping on my horn to get his attention.
“You need a ride, don’t you,” I asked. “Yes,” he responded with relief written all over his face and sweat dripping down. He was so grateful and even said that I was an angel sent from G-d. Well, I’m not sure if I’m an angel, but I do feel like I was in the right place at the right time for him. The poor guy would have had to walk miles if I had not shown up, as there was no gas station anywhere nearby to where his car died.
The other crazy part was that his kids were still at my work, and they were with my husband. I called my hubby right away and explained what was going on. The father’s cell phone had died, and there would have been no way to reach them if I hadn’t been there. It was just after hours, and I’m sure they would have wondered where their Dad was at any moment.
What a coincidence, and I’ve been thinking a lot about it over the last couple of days. In that moment, I really felt there was a divine path that is completely out of our hands. Yes, we all make our own destiny, but the clarity of knowing that we really are here on Earth to help each other out was so tangible at that moment.
It’s a nice little reminder of our duties, so my song of the day is an old classic. Diana Ross’s “Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand” is a feel good song, and it is perfect for this feel good moment. So, use this music as inspiration to go help someone today, because I am certain, it’s what we’re all supposed to be doing.
