My daughter has her challenges, as we all do, but sometimes, she can be pretty frustrating in a learning environment. Much to the chagrin of her teachers, her lack of focus can sometimes come across as a lack of care. I wish they could see what I see, because they are wrong. Not only does she care, but she has this desire in her to help the world, help animals and help people wherever she can. That need to help is so deeply ingrained, and in fact, she is one of the most caring souls I have ever met.
Yesterday, I needed to head over to my work to set up some things for an event that is happening today. While we were there, her brother played basketball the entire time. (His need is to move…not to help.)
She rolled up her sleeves and stuck to me like glue demanding tasks and for me to put her to work. As I watched her opening boxes and making the space look tidy, I realized that I am looking at a future leader. She has what it takes, and I am certain that whatever community she ends up in when she grows up will be so lucky to have her.
So, my song of the day is from John Mayer. I love how the lyrics that open up the song “Waiting on the World to Change” talk about being misunderstood.
Me and all my friends
We’re all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There’s no way we ever could
She is, in fact, sometimes misunderstood, because blog readers, this future leader may not be able to focus on writing assignments, but when the mission is to help others…she is a powerhouse. In my humble opinion, that quality is far more important than anything they could ever teach in school.
